Why a Fitting — Mattress Mart Direct, Butte MT
Thirty minutes, and you know.
Free, no obligation, and you leave with a written recommendation whether you buy or not. Here is exactly what happens in it, so you can decide whether it is worth your drive.
A photo cannot tell you where your hips go.
Every mattress in a showroom feels acceptable for ninety seconds. What decides whether you sleep is how your shoulders and hips settle after ten minutes, and that is not something a description, a firmness number or a star rating can carry.
A chair is stricter still. If the seat is too deep your feet leave the floor. If it is too tall the lift tips you forward instead of up. Those are measurements, not preferences, and getting them wrong turns an expensive chair into furniture you cannot use.
What actually happens.
-
Before you arriveWe ask what is going on, who else will use it, and if it is a chair, how much room you have. That is so the right things are already on the floor when you walk in, not fetched while you wait.
-
We measure you, not the productFor a chair: seat height against your lower leg, seat depth against your thigh, back height against your shoulders. For a mattress: how you actually lie, in the position you actually sleep in.
-
You try two or three, not twentyThe measurements have already ruled most of the floor out. Narrowing it down is our job; choosing between what is left is yours.
-
You test the thing that mattersWith a chair, that is standing up out of it. With a mattress, it is lying on it long enough to stop noticing it. Both take longer than people expect and both are the whole point.
-
You get it in writingModel, size and price, on paper, whether you buy that day or not. Take it home. Compare it to anything you like.
-
You decide in your own timeThere is no closing sequence at the end of this. If you want to think about it, that is a normal outcome and nobody here will make it awkward.
If two of you will use it, come together.
It is the single biggest predictor of whether a fitting ends in a decision. Two people rarely want the same firmness, and neither of you can answer for the other one from memory.
If you are arranging a chair for someone you care for, bring them if you possibly can. If you cannot, bring their measurements and we will work from those — but tell us at the booking so we can plan for it.
The parts people brace for.
- Chair prices depend on the size that fits
- Our mattress prices are published on this site
- You will get a written number, in person
- Nothing here sells online
- A wrong-size lift chair will not lift you
- Returns are nobody’s idea of a good day
- If nothing on the floor fits, we say so
- We will tell you what would fit
- Even if that means you leave empty-handed
Before you book
Yes to both. You can come in, spend thirty minutes, take the written recommendation and leave. That happens regularly and it is a normal outcome, not a failure.
You are welcome to. But a booked fitting means the floor and a salesperson are yours for thirty minutes with nobody else waiting, and it means the things that might suit you are already out when you arrive rather than being found while you stand there.
Thirty minutes is the slot and it is usually enough. If you are deciding between two things and want longer, say so — we would rather give you the time than have you decide badly because the clock ran out.
Whoever else will use it. If it is a chair, the width of the space and how far it can sit from the wall — a phone photo of the room helps more than you would think. If you use a walker or a wheelchair, bring it, because transfers are the thing we need to test.
Very common. Bring their height, their weight, and the measurement from the back of their knee to the floor if you can get it. Tell us at the booking that they are not coming, and we will structure the thirty minutes around getting you home with something that will actually fit them.
